Where back-to-back strut is used
Back-to-back channel is specified wherever single strut can’t span far enough or carry enough load — supporting the systems that run buildings, plants and infrastructure.
Electrical
Conduit trapeze hangers, cable tray and wireway supports, switchgear and panel racks, lighting supports.
Mechanical & plumbing
Multi-tier pipe racks, trapeze hangers, riser supports, HVAC unit and duct supports.
Solar & renewable
Ground-mount and rooftop racking members, inverter and combiner box stands, cable management.
Data centers & telecom
Overhead support grids for ladder rack, cable tray, busway, containment and equipment.
Industrial & manufacturing
Machine frames, equipment stands, guarding, workstations and process piping supports.
Water & wastewater
Stainless or hot-dip galvanized supports for pipes, instruments and conduit in wet, corrosive areas.
Commercial construction
Unistrut-style framing for ceilings, walls, signage, and building services in new construction and retrofits.
Seismic & bracing systems
Members used in engineered bracing and restraint assemblies — designed and approved by your engineer of record.
Load capacity depends on profile, gauge, span, support conditions and loading. Use published section properties and load tables, and have critical or life-safety designs reviewed by a qualified engineer.
Single vs. back-to-back
Single 1-5/8″ channel is economical for light loads and short spans. When spans get longer, loads get heavier, or you need attachment points on two faces, back-to-back channel delivers a much stiffer member in the same 1-5/8″ width — and works with the same fittings.
- Longer spans between supports
- Heavier trapeze and rack loads
- Attach from both faces
- Same fittings and hardware as single strut
